Together for a Change

Our first visit from of Cuban partners took place in September/October 2016.

Our three visitors Jose, Aymara and Alejandra came from Luyanó Presbyterian Church in Havana were able to join us for our opening of our new church.
During the 10 day visit they experienced life in Castlemilk and visited projects in Castlemilk, across the city and beyond.

Since our first visit from the Cuban group in 2016 we have had a further visit from 5 Cubans in September 2017 and we have had two groups from Castlemilk go to Cuban in March 2017 and March 2018.

What is perhaps most obvious are the friendships that have developed between the churches, that have cemented real relationships with each community.

We have been surprised by the similarities in each church - both having craft groups, in Cuba a breakfast club, in Castlemilk evening community meals, and both communities enjoying a love of the arts.

The relationships that have developed mean that we pray for one another every week in our services and that we keep in regular contact with one another about the things that are affecting our congregation and community.

We have been able to share ideas and projects with one another on our exchange visits that show the resilience and creativity of each community, particularly when encountering the challenges of poverty.
